For bookkeeping firm owners
You've spent years earning your clients' trust. Your transition shouldn't put that at risk.
Rybair is interested in acquiring Canadian bookkeeping practices and client portfolios — from small practices of around $50K in annual revenue to larger firms. Founder-friendly succession, not a roll-up.
In short
Who we're looking for
Rybair considers Canadian bookkeeping practices and client books from approximately $50,000 in annual revenue, and larger opportunities are welcome. You can sell the whole practice, retire gradually, or transition selected clients.
Every conversation is confidential, carries no obligation and is held directly with a Rybair principal. Any transaction is subject to diligence and a written agreement.
Three flexible paths
A transition shaped around you and your clients
Full exit
Transition the whole practice
For owners ready to step away. We discuss taking on the full bookkeeping practice — clients, recurring work and the way you serve them — with a handover plan built around client continuity.
Gradual retirement
Phase your transition over time
For owners who want to slow down first. You stay involved for an agreed period, introduce clients personally and hand over work in stages while we take on more of the delivery.
Partial portfolio
Transition selected clients
For owners who want to keep part of their practice. We can discuss taking on a defined group of clients — for example payroll-heavy files or clients outside your focus — while you continue with the rest.
Deal structures
Flexible consideration, agreed in writing
There's no single template. Structures may include the options below, subject to diligence and agreement. We don't guarantee a price, financing or terms before a signed agreement.
- Cash at close
- Staged payments over an agreed period
- Seller financing (a vendor take-back)
- Revenue-share or retention-based consideration
- A combination of the above
Why founder-friendly
What matters to us in a transition
Client continuity first
Introductions, timing and communication are planned with you so clients know who is looking after them and why.
A direct conversation
You speak with a Rybair principal, not a call centre. Owners may approach us directly without a broker; we encourage independent legal, tax and financial advice.
Room for your role
Some owners want a clean exit; others want to stay involved for a while. Both can be discussed.
Honest about fit
If a practice isn't a fit — for example if it relies on regulated assurance work — we'll say so early.

Curious about value?
Request an indicative valuation conversation
An informal discussion of the factors that typically shape what a bookkeeping practice is worth. It is not a formal valuation, appraisal or offer.
Questions
Selling a bookkeeping practice: common questions
Is Rybair buying bookkeeping businesses in Canada?
Yes. Rybair is interested in acquiring Canadian bookkeeping practices and client portfolios, including very small practices from approximately $50,000 in annual revenue. Larger opportunities are welcome. Every opportunity is assessed individually and any transaction is subject to diligence and a written agreement.
Can I sell only part of my bookkeeping client book?
Yes, a partial portfolio transition is one of the three paths we discuss. It can suit owners who want to reduce workload, narrow their focus or keep a smaller practice. The clients included, the handover and the consideration are agreed case by case.
What happens to my clients if I retire?
In a planned transition, you and the buyer agree how and when clients are introduced, how their files and access move, and who they contact during the handover. A phased approach, where you stay involved for a period, often helps clients feel looked after. Client consent and privacy obligations should be considered with your own advisors.
How is a bookkeeping practice valued?
Valuations usually consider recurring revenue, client retention and concentration, the type of work, pricing, how dependent clients are on the owner, systems and documentation, and the deal structure. We don't publish multiples or promise a price. An indicative valuation conversation with Rybair is informal and is not a formal valuation or an offer.
Do you offer seller financing or staged payments?
Structures may include cash at close, staged payments, seller financing, revenue-share or retention-based consideration, or a combination. What is appropriate depends on the practice, diligence findings and what both sides agree. Nothing is guaranteed before a signed agreement.
Do I need a business broker to sell my bookkeeping practice?
No — owners may approach Rybair directly without a broker. We still encourage you to get independent legal, tax and financial advice before agreeing to any transaction.
Is the conversation confidential?
Yes. First conversations are confidential and carry no obligation. Please don't send client names or client financial data at the first stage; if both sides want to go further, information is exchanged under an agreed confidentiality arrangement.
Does it matter which software my practice uses?
Many practices run on QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage or a mix. We are comfortable assessing practices across common Canadian bookkeeping and payroll systems; the software is one input into the transition plan, not a reason to rule a practice out.
Is Rybair a CPA firm?
No. Rybair provides bookkeeping, tax preparation, payroll and financial advisory services. We are not a CPA firm and do not acquire or provide audit, review or other assurance engagements.

Practice optimization for bookkeeping and accounting firms
We're developing a small, future-facing service for firm owners who want to run their practice better: workflow and process improvement, automation, client onboarding, reporting, pricing and packaging, and website, conversion and search visibility.
This is an early, future-facing offer. Rybair itself is the first case study — the systems and processes we use to run our own firm. We don't have outside client results to share yet.
What are you trying to improve?
For example: workflow and process, automation and systems, client onboarding, reporting, pricing and packaging, or website, conversion, SEO and lead funnel.
