Startups & Growth Companies
From first books and payroll to a finance function that can scale.
A practical financial foundation for owner-led companies in any industry.
In short
What this means
Rybair helps startups and growing owner-led businesses set up their accounting structure, keep monthly records current and connect payroll, tax and cash planning to decisions. Startup is a stage, not a synonym for software: the workflow follows your actual customers, costs and growth plans.
Start with a structure that reflects the business
An accounting system and chart of accounts should distinguish the entities, revenue streams and costs you need to see. We can scope setup or migration, organize founder expense records and separate business from personal activity before those boundaries become harder to untangle.
- Accounting system and chart setup based on the operating model
- Founder expenses and business-versus-personal records
- Bank and payment-source reconciliations
- Documented month-end close and open items
Keep payroll and tax connected to the books
As a team forms, payroll processing and remittance records need to reconcile with the ledger. GST/HST and corporate T2 preparation or coordination can be scoped alongside the underlying bookkeeping. Each filing, payment approval and specialist responsibility is confirmed before engagement; jurisdiction-sensitive work is not automatic.
See cash before it becomes a surprise
A cash runway view needs current balances, known obligations and assumptions about collections, spending and hiring. Budgets and forecasts can compare a base plan with different growth or funding scenarios. We label estimates separately from reconciled actual results.
Give owners and stakeholders a useful view
Management and investor reporting can connect revenue, margin, hiring and cash changes to the decisions ahead. For a lender or fundraising process, we can organize reconciled statements, schedules and diligence materials. The lender or investor makes the decision; preparation is not a financing guarantee.
Add controls as complexity grows
Approval paths, access, expense documentation and clear ownership of the close become more important with each new person, entity or location. We can help move from basic bookkeeping toward recurring finance operations and strategic planning without claiming a legal or incorporation service.
Assess the stack as the team grows
We can assess Stripe, PayPal, Square or Shopify Payments records, and payroll data from QuickBooks Payroll, Wagepoint, ADP or Humi. Rippling, Deel or Gusto may be relevant in a U.S. or cross-border context subject to jurisdiction review. These examples are not claims of live integration.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Is this only for technology startups?
No. We work from your business stage, records and operating model, whether you sell services, products or subscriptions.
Can you set up the books if we are starting from scratch?
We can assess the entity, transactions and reporting needs, then scope accounting-system setup and a chart of accounts. Incorporation or legal advice is not included.
Does bookkeeping include GST/HST and T2 filings?
Not automatically. We confirm the tax work, jurisdiction, source records and who prepares, reviews, files and pays before accepting the scope.
When should we add forecasts and controls?
When hiring, financing or operating complexity makes the next cash decision harder to see. We can start with a close routine and add reporting, forecasts and approvals as needed.
Can you work with our payment and payroll systems?
We assess available exports and access against the records and jurisdiction in scope; a named platform does not mean a live integration is in place.
Service scope, access, responsibilities and delivery dates are agreed in writing. Tax, payroll and jurisdiction-sensitive work is assessed before engagement; assurance and legal services are not included.
